About the project

Betpesa is a Sportsbook app targeting the Kenyian market. My role with in this project was the sole UI/UX Designer, which i was in charge of making a Design System along with Component Libraries. SO it would be easier for other designers and the development team to easily navigate the project.

The Screens below shows you the first stage of the project where the user can create an account and easily begin betting. With the ability to update payment and any other personal information. The second set of Screens shows what the app looks like on Desktop Screens.

The Problem

The main issue we would encounter was how to deal with the poor Internet infrastructure in Kenya. As most user have a Screen Size below an iPhone 5s and are using 2g & 3g Mobile Data. So as a Team we dedicated a lot of time to figure out a good solution for both design and development.

The Second Issue would be that the mainly use Opera Mini as the main browser as it’s pre-installed on most pre paid phones in Kenya.

The Solution

What we came up with for design was I use the iPhone 5s as the default frame to use in Figma, as well as i used a CSS Tailwinds UI Kit to use a my base designs as the dev’s where using this as their base framework. This would allow us to use code splitting techniques and be able to push two variants of the project one for mobile and the second for desktop.

Which will save us download size in which is better for the user, as they can then easily download the app.

With the second issue we had to test and make sure everything would work seamlessly with opera mini, which most of us have never really used before. So we had a prototype designed in figma as well as web based to be able to really test everything out and make sure we had no bugs. this was a lot of going back and forth with the senior dev.

I feel this product came out successfully and was a success due to research that really easily prepared us for the project.
